The Splendour of Nature

A part of our natural and cultural heritage is protected and preserved on the territory of the Triglav National Park. The only national park in Slovenia is one of the oldest parks in Europe, which is a testament of a high awareness among the Slovenian people for preservation of their natural landmarks. Bohinj and its surroundings allow you to experience nature in its primal form.

Bohinj

Awaken your senses and connect to the raw beauty of the paradise beneath the mountain tops.

Bohinj – The Garden of Eden of the Julian Alps

It’s time for you to get your own piece of heaven! When did you last listen to the bustling sounds of streams, experience the symphony of the birds singing, gazed into the night sky covered with abundance of stars and let yourself go to the gentle embrace of the blossoming meadows and fragrant forests? Combine your outdoor activities with magnificent sunrises and sunsets, socializing with friendly locals, encountering wild animals and colourful vegetation and memorable views. To put it simply Bohinj is a heaven for hikers, photographers and nature lovers, and the healing mountain climate makes it a perfect spot to invigorate one’s body and mind.

Endemic Plant Species

Due to its rich biotic diversity Bohinj is placed among the most biodiverse places in the world; therefore, you will be amazed by astonishing creations of nature on each step of the way. In Bohinj, you can find a Magic Forest with thick trees and Lopata Primeval Forest, and feast your eyes on Edelweiss, Crimped Bellflower, Orchids and Crystal violet... You can also feast your eyes on endemic species, such as the Triglav Hawksbeard (Crepis terglouensis), Silver-leaved Cranesbill (Geranium argentum) and Alpine poppy (Papaver alpinum, subspecies: ernesti-mayeri). You are also most welcome to visit the International Wild Flower Festival in Bohinj, which takes place every year in the end of May and beginning of June.

Non-Domesticated Animals in Bohinj

During your stay you will most likely encounter any of the wild animals that inhabit Bohinj. Some can be observed by merely watching the surrounding area closely or go animal-watching with an experienced guide, since some species are true masters of disguise. Their common characteristic is their ability to adapt to harsh living conditions. Bohinj is the natural habitat of chamois, steinbock, stag, mouflon, foxes, mountain hare, marmots and roe deer, endemic marble trout, as well as the brown bear and lynx. The Western Capercaillie, the Black Grouse, the Griffon Vulture and the majestic Golden Eagle are only some of the most majestic species of 84 bird species that inhabit the Triglav National Park.
